The Municipal Government of Santa María Huatulco, led by Eng. Julio Cárdenas, signed a tripartite collaboration agreement between the National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR), the H. City Council of Santa María Huatulco, and the Communal Property Commission, with the purpose of conserving the natural resources of the Voluntarily Designated Conservation Area (ADVC Huatulco), which covers an area of 3 thousand hectares.
This agreement will allow for the formation and equipping of a forest fire brigade, as well as the opening and conditioning of firebreaks and access roads. It also contemplates promoting sustainable productive projects that generate direct benefits for the community.
The initiative seeks to guarantee the protection and responsible use of natural resources, promoting carbon capture, aquifer recharge, and water supply in the lower areas of the municipality.
During the event, Eng. Manaces Martínez Chávez, head of CONAFOR's Local Forestry Development Promotion Office in Miahuatlán de Porfirio Díaz, Biologist Rafael Hernández Cortés, technical liaison, and technical advisor Biologist José Santiago Velasco were present.
This agreement represents an important step for the conservation of the territory and the well-being of future generations.
