Coordinated Effort Allows for the Care of a Stranded Whale Calf in Barra de la Cruz

An interinstitutional effort led to the rescue of a whale calf stranded in Barra de la Cruz. Authorities and volunteers worked to return it to the sea.

As a result of an interinstitutional effort between authorities and civil society, a whale calf stranded on the beach of Barra de la Cruz community, Santiago Astata municipality, received attention.
The Huatulco Civil Protection and Fire Department moved to the site with emergency units and paramedics, coordinating with Huatulco National Park, the Secretariat of the Navy, turtle camp personnel, as well as residents and community volunteers, activating the corresponding protocols for the care of the specimen.
For several hours, efforts were made to keep the whale calf in adequate conditions and facilitate its return to the sea, successfully allowing the specimen to regain flotation and swimming.
