PILOT PROGRAM FOR SAFE CROSSINGS AND SCHOOL ZONES IN SECTOR H
The Municipal Government of Santa María Huatulco is implementing a safe mobility pilot program in Sector H, intervening in two school environments and one safe crossing.
The Municipal Government of Santa María Huatulco, led by Eng. Julio César Cárdenas Ortega, through the “Streets that Unite Us” program, is conducting a safe mobility pilot program by intervening in two safe school environments and one safe crossing, as a result of a participatory process coordinated by Codeando México, with the support of the People Powered Fund.
The interventions are being carried out in Sector H, specifically on Gardenia Street, in front of the Lic. Adolfo López Mateos Primary School and the Federico Froebel Kindergarten, as well as at the intersection of Bugambilia Street and Chahué Boulevard, points identified as priorities due to their high pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
This exercise was developed under an approach of citizen participation and collaborative planning, and included the following stages:
- Application of digital surveys to identify mobility habits and perceptions of road safety.
- Work tables with various sectors, including transporters, Municipal Government areas, educational centers, and the community in general, to integrate comments, diagnoses, and needs.
- Collection of citizen proposals through digital platforms.
- Technical analysis of the collected information and planning of the pilot program for its field implementation.
- Elaboration of plans for safe crossings and school environments with urban design and road safety criteria.
These interventions seek to promote a new mobility culture, prioritizing the most vulnerable users of public roads, strengthening safety, order, and coexistence in urban spaces, and projecting a more human and accessible image of the city center.
This is carried out in accordance with the provisions of the General Law on Mobility and Road Safety and NOM-004-SEDATU-2023, related to the structure and design of urban roads.
